Mesra Malaysia
- The Mesra Malaysia Course is a new module developed to replace the We Are The Host (WATH) module, which had been used since 2014;
- The module was developed to provide comprehensive training to front-line personnel who are directly or indirectly involved in the tourism industry; and
- This course is a mandatory prerequisite for tourist guides before they can be licensed by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC).
- To provide tourism industry players and front-line personnel with exposure to the current direction of Malaysia’s tourism industry;
- To enhance understanding of the importance of customer service and strengthen the skills required to deliver excellent service;
- To help participants understand the communication process, communication barriers and the use of more effective communication techniques; and
- To create awareness and share information on the latest tourism products.
- This is a one-day course that is open to front-line personnel, tourism industry players and individuals who are directly or indirectly involved in the tourism industry;
- Only trained instructors accredited as Mesra Malaysia Master Trainers by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia are permitted to conduct this training; and
- Each participant who completes the course will receive a Course Participation Certificate from MOTAC.
ECO-Host
Eco-Host is a course introduced by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) to promote environmental conservation awareness and encourage sustainable tourism practices.
The course is a mandatory prerequisite for individuals who have completed the Regional Specific Tourist Guide (RSTG) Sabah & Sarawak Course and the Local Nature Tourist Guide (Level 2) Course before applying for a tourist guide licence from the Tourism Licensing and Enforcement Division (BPPP).
It is also encouraged for frontliners in the tourism industry who are involved in nature-based tourism activities.
The Eco-Host Course aims to:
- Educate participants on current environmental issues and the impacts of human activities on natural ecosystems;
- Enhance understanding of the relationship between tourism, the environment and local communities;
- Promote awareness of the importance of ecotourism and the shared responsibility to protect and conserve the environment; and
- Encourage responsible and sustainable tourism practices among tourism industry players.
Applicants may contact any MOTAC State Office or licensed Tourism Training Institute (ILP) for information on the course schedule, eligibility requirements and registration process.
Public and private organisations interested in organising the Eco-Host Course may do so in collaboration with MOTAC or a licensed ILP.
The Eco-Host Course is conducted physically over one (1) day using the official MOTAC module and is delivered by speakers accredited by MOTAC. Participants are required to attend all course modules throughout the course to be eligible for a certificate of participation issued by MOTAC.
