Registration Tourism Project
Introduction

A tourism project refers to a project that is specifically planned and developed to promote tourism activities. The project should be capable of attracting tourists to visit the destination and participate in the activities provided.

Project Categories

Tourism projects are divided into two (2) categories as follows:

Accommodation Projects
  • Hotels
  • Resorts
  • Motels / Inns / Rest Houses
  • Chalets
  • Holiday Campsites
Non-Accommodation Projects
  • Theme Parks
  • Integrated Handicraft Centres and Cultural Exhibitions
  • Galleries and Museums
  • Marinas
  • Tourism Restaurants
  • Conference / Exhibition Centres
Terms and Conditions

Each tourism project application will be considered on its own merits from time to time, based on the following general requirements and characteristics:

  1. The project’s target market must focus on domestic or international tourists.
  2. The company undertaking the tourism project must be incorporated in Malaysia.
  3. Tourism packages may be developed based on the project’s distinctive attractions.
  4. The project must be capable of enhancing the image of the local area, diversifying tourism activities and generating economic spin-off effects.
  5. Building architecture and interior design incorporating elements of local culture are encouraged.
  6. The project must not be membership-based or exclusive in nature.
  7. For accommodation projects, there must be no minimum length of stay requirement, time-sharing concept or individual ownership of accommodation rooms. No part of the accommodation project may be sold to individuals or leased on a long-term basis.
  8. For non-accommodation projects, the minimum permitted investment is RM10 million, excluding land costs.
  9. Construction of the project must be at least 75% complete.
Application Procedure
  1. The completed application form must be submitted to:

    62200 Putrajaya
  2. The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is not obliged to provide the reasons for the rejection of an application.
  3. Failure to submit complete documents in accordance with the checklist may result in the application being rejected.
  4. Approval as a tourism project does not automatically entitle the company concerned to receive approval for tourism incentives or benefits.
  5. The Tourism Project Registration Application Form is provided free of charge and does not involve any registration fee.
  6. Information in the Tourism Project Registration Application Form must be typed.
