INTRODUCTION
Nominations for the UNWTO (World Tourism Organization) Best Tourism Villages recognition programme are now open for its third edition in 2023. This programme aims to identify and recognise rural tourism destinations that reflect various aspects of sustainability, in alignment with the UN Agenda 2030 framework and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY
Nominations are open to rural tourism destinations that meet the following requirements:

A population not exceeding 15,000 residents.

Located in an area that prioritises traditional activities such as agriculture, forestry, livestock, or fisheries.

Possesses shared community values and lifestyle.

Nominations will be evaluated based on 9 core areas:

Environmental Sustainability

Tourism Potential & Development and Value Chain Integration
