22 March 2021 – The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia (MOTAC), YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri is on a two-day working visit to Melaka, starting today.
During this visit, he paid a courtesy call on YAB Datuk Seri Utama Haji Sulaiman bin Md Ali, Chief Minister of Melaka at Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh, Melaka.
The Minister then paid a courtesy call on His Excellency the Governor of Melaka, Tun Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam.
This courtesy visit was also attended by YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Noor Zari bin Hamat, Secretary General along with the MOTAC work team, Departments and Agencies under him.
Apart from strengthening the strategic relationship between MOTAC and the Melaka State Government, this meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss the direction of tourism & culture work in the state.
At this meeting, YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy also expressed MOTAC’s commitment to continue to help develop and promote Melaka as one of the premier tourism destinations in Malaysia. YB Minister also had the opportunity to share on the development of new tourism products post-Covid-19 as well as proposals for state and federal cooperation.
This time the roadshow session involved three states in the Southern Zone, namely Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Johor, which was held in a hybrid format, namely physical and online. The DPN 2020-2030 was launched on 22 December 2020 by the Prime Minister and is a document that includes key strategies to restore the competitiveness of the country’s tourism industry at the global level with a transformation agenda that focuses on efforts to increase national income, encourage cooperation and investment efforts, empower local communities and strengthen the resilience and sustainability of the country’s tourism industry.
On 23 March 2021, the Minister will continue his visit to tourism product locations around Bandar Hilir. The second day’s visit schedule will take everyone to explore and experience the diverse tastes and deliciousness of local food as well as historical locations and craft products. It includes visits to the History and Ethnography Museum, Stadhuys Building, Melaka City Heritage Gallery, Malaysian Architecture Museum, A Famosa Fort, Independence Proclamation Memorial and Wangkang Museum.
The next agenda is the presentation of certificates to participants of the Rattan Craft Workshop in Bukit Piatu Melaka, a friendly session with the community and craft entrepreneurs at Homestay Alai and then ending at Mahkota Parade for the media launch of the Shop and Be Rewarded Campaign which will also be attended by the YAB Chief Minister of Melaka.
