SABAH RUMPUN BAJAUSAMA CULTURAL FESTIVAL 2025 ENCOURAGES TUARAN

SABAH, 10 August 2025 | The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) in collaboration with the Sabah State Government and the Sabah Bajausama Tribe Association has organised the Sabah Bajausama Tribe Cultural Festival 2025 (FKRBSS2025) for four days from 7 to 10 August 2025 at the Bajausama Tribe Cultural Centre, Kampung Lok Batik, Tuaran, Sabah. The festival, which took place from 9.00 am to 11.00 pm each day, was officiated by

Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Musa bin Haji Aman, His Excellency the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah and was also attended by YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji bin Haji Noor, Chief Minister of Sabah and YB Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia.

This festival aims to preserve, empower and promote the culture of the Bajausama Clan which is part of the important heritage of the state of Sabah, in addition to strengthening the unity of the multi-ethnic community through performances of art, music, dance, language, food and traditional games. This 2025 edition is more special because it is the first time it has received official cooperation from MOTAC and has been appointed as one of the driving events of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026).

Among the interesting activities throughout the festival are traditional and modern cultural performances, Bajausama ethnic dance and music, folk game demonstrations, handicraft exhibitions, heritage clothing competitions, weaving workshops, wood carving, traditional food making, mini concerts by famous local artists and the Citarasa Warisan@Sabah program which features more than 30 types of Sabah heritage food including Ambuyat, Bosou, Nasi Linopot, Sambal Tuhau, Borneo Sago and Kuih Penjaram.

MOTAC also reiterated its commitment to assisting arts and tourism activists in Sabah, especially Tuaran, through the Cultural Sector Support Grant (GSSK) and Tourism Sector Support Grant (GSSP). This approach is in line with the spirit of MADANI Malaysia which emphasizes cultural sustainability, community economic well-being and the preservation of heritage values ​​for future generations.

More importantly, the festival involves the active participation of the local community as dancers, musicians, cooks, traders, workshop coordinators and cultural heritage exhibitors, thus strengthening the local economy and instilling a sense of pride in local heritage culture. MOTAC’s long-term aspiration is to make culture an asset of the country’s economy and diplomacy in line with the National Cultural Policy (DAKEN) and the aspirations of MADANI Malaysia.
