PUTRAJAYA – The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) continues to strengthen enforcement against tourism activities without a valid license under the Tourism Industry Act 1992 [Act 482] in line with the principles of MADANI Malaysia which emphasises compliance with the law for the sake of justice and common prosperity.
For the first two (2) weeks of July 2025, a total of 22 operations were carried out by MOTAC enforcement officers in several key locations nationwide. Inspections were made on 180 vehicles, 30 tour companies, 4 accommodation premises and 33 tour guides and 13 notices were issued for various offences.
This includes inspections of entities suspected of operating a tourism business without a valid license in an operation conducted in Perak based on public information. If convicted, the parties involved can be fined a maximum of five hundred thousand ringgit (RM500,000.00) or imprisoned for up to ten (10) years or both under Act 482.
MOTAC will continue to strengthen strategic collaboration with enforcement agencies such as the Road Transport Department (JPJ), Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) to ensure compliance with tourism laws.
MOTAC reminds any individual or company that provides tourism services including transportation, accommodation or tour organization physically or online to immediately apply for a license at the nearest state MOTAC office before strict legal action is taken.
The cooperation of the public and industry players is also welcome to channel any information about tourism activities suspected of violating regulations through the Public Complaints Management System (SISPAA) channel (https://motac.spab.gov.my/eApps/system/index.do). MOTAC is committed to ensuring that only legally licensed tourism industry players operate for the well-being of tourists and a sustainable and inclusive industry based on MADANI values.
