TOURISM COMPANY FINE RM7,000 FOR FAILING TO USE LICENSED TOURIST DRIVER SERVICES

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) stresses that offences under the Tourism Industry Act 1992 [Act 482] and its regulations are serious criminal offences. MOTAC will continue to take strict action against any party who violates the law, especially those involving the use of unlicensed tour guides which can affect the image and safety of the country’s tourism industry.

This is in line with the decision of the Criminal Magistrate’s Court 1, Georgetown, Penang today to sentence Tong Bus & Tour Service Sdn. Bhd. (Company No.: 537966-P) after the company pleaded guilty to the charge of failing to use the services of a licensed tour guide when operating domestic tourism activities.

For the offence, the Court imposed a fine of Ringgit Malaysia Seven Thousand (RM7,000.00) on OKS. If the company fails to pay the fine, it may be sentenced to imprisonment for one (1) month. The prosecution was conducted by Prosecuting Officer Puan Nurul Hidayah binti Aman and assisted by Puan Revathy A/P Muruvin from the Penang State MOTAC Office.
