Given that one of the functions of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) is to conduct research and studies on the tourism sector, does the Ministry plan to undertake a dedicated study on sustainable tourism in Malaysia?

MOTAC is committed to undertaking research and studies on tourism, including sustainable tourism, to support evidence-based policymaking, enhance the competitiveness of the tourism industry, and ensure the sustainable development of the sector.

This effort is in line with the National Tourism Policy (NTP) 2020–2030, which promotes responsible tourism development by balancing economic growth with environmental conservation, the preservation of cultural heritage, and the well-being of local communities.

The findings of these studies will also enable MOTAC to identify emerging challenges and opportunities, including addressing issues such as overtourism, while ensuring that the economic and social benefits of tourism are sustained for the nation and its people.
