MOTAC strengthens international cooperation through policy development and strategic partnerships at the bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels to enhance the competitiveness of Malaysia’s tourism industry. These collaborations are implemented through three main channels:

(i) Bilateral Cooperation Strengthening cooperation with partner countries through Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), bilateral meetings, and the implementation of collaborative programmes in the field of tourism.

(ii) Regional Cooperation Advancing the regional tourism agenda through platforms such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT), and the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

(iii) Multilateral Cooperation Representing and promoting Malaysia’s interests in international organisations such as UN Tourism, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Through these collaborations, Malaysia is able to expand access to international tourism markets, attract greater investment and knowledge exchange, promote sustainable tourism practices, and strengthen the country’s position as a globally competitive tourism destination.
