Guidelines for Tourism Project Registration Applications

INTRODUCTION
A tourism project refers to a project that is specifically planned and developed to promote tourism activities and is able to attract tourists to visit the place in question and engage themselves in the activities held.

PROJECT TYPES
Divided into 2 types of projects, namely:

Accommodation Project

  • Hotel
  • Pusat Peranginan/Resort
  • Motel / Inn / Rest House
  • Chalet
  • Holiday Tent

Non-Accommodation Project

  • Theme Park
  • Integrated Handicraft Center and Cultural Exhibition
  • Galleries and Museums
  • Marina Park
  • Tourism Restaurant
  • Conference/Exhibition Center

CONDITIONS
Applications for each tourism project are weighed according to their merits from time to time based on the following general conditions and characteristics:

  1. The project’s target market is focused on tourists, whether local or foreign tourists.
  2. The company organizing the tourism project must be incorporated in Malaysia.
  3. Tour packages can be arranged for its unique attractions.
  4. This project aims to improve the local image and diversify tourism activities (spin-offs).
  5. Building architecture and interior decoration of projects that incorporate local cultural elements are encouraged.
  6. This project is not membership-based or exclusive.
  7. For accommodation projects, there is no minimum length of stay requirement, no concept of time-sharing or individual ownership of accommodation rooms and no part of the accommodation project is sold to individuals or rented out on a long-term basis.
  8. For non-accommodation projects, the minimum investment allowed is RM10 million, excluding land costs.
  9. Project construction must be at least 75% complete.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  2. The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is not ‘bound’ to inform the reasons for rejection of applications.
  3. Failure to submit complete documents based on the checklist may result in the application being rejected.
  4. Failure to submit complete documents based on the checklist may result in the application being rejected. Applications approved as tourism projects do not automatically qualify the companies concerned for approval for tourism incentives.
  5. The Tourism Project Registration Application Form is free and does not involve any registration costs.
  6. The information in the Tourism Project Registration Form must be typed.
