MOTAC STRENGTHENS ENFORCEMENT OPERATIONS TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE WITH TOURISM INDUSTRY LAWS

PUTRAJAYA – The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) continues to intensify its integrated enforcement efforts nationwide to ensure compliance with the Tourism Industry Act 1992 [Act 482] and the Tourism Vehicle Licensing Act 1999 [Act 594]. For the period from 14 July to 3 August 2025, a total of 35 operations were carried out at various locations in strategic collaboration with the Road Transport Department (JPJ), Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), National Registration Department (JPN) and the Penang Port Commission.

During this period, inspections were conducted on 220 tourism vehicles, 200 tourism companies, 4 tourism accommodation premises and 67 tour guides. As a result, a total of 24 notices were issued for various offences, including 5 notices for operating a tourism business without a valid licence, and 7 notices for the offence of using an unlicensed vehicle to transport tourists. Strict action will be taken including prosecution, compounding, suspension or revocation of licences.

MOTAC reminds all licensed tourism companies to only collaborate with legitimate licensed tourism entities and use tourism vehicles that are fully licensed by the authorities. MOTAC remains firm in ensuring the safety of tourists, and legal action will be taken in the event of any incidents or violations of regulations. To companies that are still carrying out tourism activities without a license, MOTAC warns them to immediately obtain a valid license to avoid enforcement action.

MOTAC remains committed to implementing comprehensive and effective law enforcement through cross-agency cooperation in line with the principles of good governance, fairness and trust under the MADANI Malaysia framework. This ongoing effort is important in creating a safe and integrity-based tourism industry, thereby supporting the mission of Visit Malaysia Year 2026. MOTAC also calls on all tourism associations and the public to play their part in making this national agenda a success.
