- Through discussions with the MOSTI COVID-19 Immunization Special Task Force, a decision was made to make Langkawi Island a pilot destination for the COVID-19 Free Destination Program.
- The government also agreed to increase the capacity to provide vaccinations to the residents of Langkawi Island and to make the Langkawi Craft Complex an Additional Public Vaccination (PPV) Centre starting mid-July 2021.
- Apart from Langkawi, the pilot destination for the COVID-19 Free Destination Program is also proposed to be implemented in Kuching, Sarawak. The selection of Kuching city coincides with its location which is famous for the influx of tourists both from within and outside the country. - MOTAC has also held an Assistance Coordination Meeting to expand this program to resort islands that are the main focus of tourists such as Pulau Redang, Pulau Perhentian, Pulau Pangkor, Pulau Tioman and other islands. Discussions were held with the State Tourism Department and relevant District Offices, especially involving promotional elements and efforts to increase the capacity to provide vaccination to local residents on these islands.
- Based on the discussion, the State Tourism Department and District Offices are advised to submit plans and applications regarding requirements that can be considered by MOTAC.
- An engagement session between MOTAC and all State Governments regarding the determination of major tourist destinations that are tourist attractions to be highlighted as locations that will be given attention in this phase. In addition, the collaboration also includes the use of suitable facilities that can be mobilized to be used as PPV centers.
