FUNCTIONS
- To provide legal advice on specific matters under the jurisdiction of the ministry/agency.
- To provide interpretation of the laws such as the Federal Constitution, State Constitution, parliamentary acts, enactments/ordinances and subsidiary legislation.
- To review agreements and contracts, treaties or memorandums of understanding and legal documents submitted by the ministry/agency.
- To review proposed new legislation or amendments to existing laws and subsidiary legislation.
- To handle civil cases involving the ministry/agency (if necessary).
- To attend meetings at departmental, ministerial, national and/or international level on matters mentioned above.
- To be directly responsible to the head office of the Advisory and International Division to refer and obtain the views as well as approval/comments of the attorney-general in matters pertaining to the law.
CLIENT CHARTER
- To review and provide quality legal advice to the ministry and departments, agencies and divisions under it in writing or orally within seven (7) days.
- To draft and review any existing primary or subsidiary legislation under the ministry/agency within three (3) months from the date of receipt of the first complete draft.
- To draft and review legal documents such as contracts/agreements/MoUs, instruments and Memorandums of Understanding of departments, divisions and agencies under the ministry by taking into account Government policies and safeguarding the public interest within fourteen (14) days from the date of receipt of the complete document.
- To review and provide instructions on investigation papers under the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia Act that are referred to within fourteen (14) days.
- To represent the Government of Malaysia and the ministry/agency in any legal proceedings and prosecutions on the date, time and place as directed by the Court.
