Recognition of Tourism Products Through the Malaysia Tourism Quality Assurance (MyTQA) Program

12 September 2022 – The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) today launched the New Version of the Malaysia Tourism Quality Assurance (MyTQA) Program at Panggung Sari, Malaysia Handicraft Complex.

The MyTQA program, which was first introduced in 2014, is an initiative to provide recognition to tourism products and to emphasize to tourism industry players to prioritize the quality of services provided and the need to upgrade the quality of tourism product facilities in Malaysia.

The restructuring of categories under MyTQA from the existing 13 categories to 7 new categories is based on segments identified under the National Tourism Policy (DPN 2020 – 2030) such as Nature, Adventure & Eco Tourism, Sports & Recreation Tourism, Shopping & Lifestyle Tourism, Aqua & Marine Tourism, Culture & Heritage Tourism, Man Made Tourism and Business Event Tourism. This restructuring of categories provides space and opportunities for more industry players to apply for recognition under the MyTQA Program.

To date, 61 tourism products from various categories across the country have received MyTQA recognition and the number of these products will increase given that in 2022 alone, MOTAC has received 28 new applications and re-evaluations.

YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) in her opening speech said, the MyTQA Program will serve as a reference for the public to choose the best tourism products to visit. The emphasis by each tourism product on the aspects of Facility, Safety Practices, Staff & Business Operator, Appearance & Experience, Marketing & Promotion and Sustainable Practices makes tourism products that have received MyTQA recognition more reliable to be visited by tourists.

In addition, the introduction of the New Version of the MyTQA Program also provides an opportunity for more industry players to participate and at the same time can improve the quality of services offered. Industry players are also encouraged to offer more attractive packages to domestic and foreign tourists.

“MOTAC is also always ready to expand the MyTQA Program to other industry players under the tourism, arts and culture sectors depending on suitability and needs from time to time. Continuous cooperation from industry players is highly expected so that we can work together with MOTAC in making the MyTQA Program a success,” he added.

At the same ceremony, Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy also had the opportunity to present MyTQA Recognition Certificates to six (6) successful tourism products, namely Pavilion Shopping Mall, Kuala Lumpur, Gunung Mulu National Park, Lambir Hills National Park, UK Farm, Farm In The City and KL Tower Mini Zoo and announced that more products will receive this recognition in the near future.
