Langkawi International Travel Bubble Will Be Extended Until The National Borders Reopen

17 February 2022 - The Langkawi International Travel Bubble (LITB) was implemented as a three (3) months pilot project commencing from 15 November 2021. This pilot project assessed the readiness and preparedness of the countries’ tourism ecosystem, especially the tourism industry and the frontline workers in receiving international tourists to Malaysia in stages and in a safe manner.

The COVID-19 Quartet Ministers Meeting No.2/2022 held on 8 February 2022 agreed to the extension of the Langkawi International Travel Bubble (LITB) until the reopening of the national borders. The SOP for foreign tourists entering Malaysia through LITB was standardised according to the latest requirement by the Ministry of Health Malaysia and was gazetted on 16 February 2022. The changes are as follows:

  1. Fully vaccinated tourists with booster may leave Langkawi Island on Day 5 if the RT-PCR test on Day 4 is negative OR RTK-Ag (Professional) test on Day 5 is negative;

  2. Children aged 12 and below may travel with their vaccinated parents

  3. / guardian without having to prove their vaccination;

  4. Children under the age of two (2) DO NOT need to undergo the COVID-19 screening test;

  5. Mandatory for every foreign tourist to purchase an insurance policy worth USD50,000 (COVID-19 and travel). Malaysian citizens living abroad are exempted from this requirement; and

  6. Flight arrivals via KLIA2 is allowed (beginning 22 February 2022).

This SOP commences from 16 February 2022 and will be the benchmark for the reopening of international borders. YB Dato' Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture hopes that this decision will benefit international travellers who wish to visit Malaysia through the LITB.
