Handover Of Malaysian Traditional Costumes Under The Cultural Diplomacy Initiative To Strengthen National Arts, Culture, And Heritage Activities
27 January 2022 - The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) as the cultural diplomacy lead continues to introduce and uphold Malaysia's arts, culture and heritage at the national and international level.One of the approaches to showcase the uniqueness of our cultural diversity is through the exhibition of our major ethnic groups’ traditional costumes in Malaysia as well as exclusive handicraft products (Malaysian signature craft products) at the Malaysian embassies and cultural institutions abroad.
In this respect, a handover ceremony of Malaysian traditional attire by the Honorable Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dato' Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri to the Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato' Sri Saifuddin Abdullah was held at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture today.
Five (5) types of traditional wear for the main ethnic groups in Malaysia, namely Malay, Chinese, Indian, Sabah and Sarawak with complete accessories and mannequin will be handed to the ASEAN Cultural Centre in Bangkok, Thailand and 10 selected Malaysian Embassies abroad, including Malaysian Embassies / High Commissions in France, the German Republic, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, China and South Korea.
This strategic collaboration between MOTAC, Associations/Non-Governmental Organisations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will further enhance the understanding and role of Malaysian ambassadors abroad in promoting the country's arts and culture besides strengthening the cultural collaboration with international cultural institutions.
This initiative is also in line with the National Cultural Policy (DAKEN) 2021 to strengthen arts, culture and heritage programmes and activities at the grassroot level and globally.
