ASEAN TOURISM COMMITTEE MEETINGS (ATCM) 2024 IN KUCHING, SARAWAK, 4-8 MARCH 2024

8 March 2024 – The ASEAN Tourism Committee Meetings (ATCM) 2024 concluded on 8 March 2024 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, with resounding success. Hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, the five-day event brought together nearly 80 delegates from all ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat to discuss and strategize on the implementation of the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan (ATSP) 2016-2025 and key initiatives to enhance tourism sector across the region.

The ATCM 2024 Kuching featured deliberations across five (5) committee meetings, namely:

i. 17th ASEAN Tourism Marketing Partnership Working Group (ATMP-WG) Meeting;
ii. 17th ASEAN Tourism Competitiveness Committee (ATCC) Meeting;
iii. 31st ASEAN Tourism Professional Monitoring Committee (ATPMC) Meeting;
iv. 17th ASEAN Sustainable and Inclusive Tourism Development Committee (ASITDC) Meeting; and
v. 17th ASEAN Tourism Resourcing, Monitoring, and Evaluation Committee (ATRMEC) Meeting.

As a highlight of the sideline activities, a Workshop on Enhancing ASEAN Standards, Awards, and Frameworks towards Sustainable Waste Management in the Tourism Sector was held on 4 March 2024 underscoring the region's commitment to sustainability and responsible tourism practices.

The official proceedings commenced with a warm Welcome Reception at the historic Old Court House Kuching, setting a convivial tone for the deliberations ahead. Delegates were treated to the rich local cuisine, cultural performance, and architectural heritage of Sarawak, immersing themselves in its vibrant ambiance.

On 6 March 2024, delegates embarked on an enriching excursion hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry Creative, and Performing Arts (MTCP) Sarawak. The excursion included a technical tour to the Borneo Culture Museum, providing insights into the history and cultural tapestry of Sarawak. Additionally, a networking tourism bowling session fostered camaraderie among participants, culminating in an Official Dinner at the prestigious Sheraton Hotel Kuching.

The ATCM 2024 Kuching concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to harnessing the potential of ASEAN's tourism sector to foster economic growth, promote cultural exchange, and ensure sustainability for future generations.
