Two-Pronged Approach By MOTAC At LIMA 2015 Tourism And Culture Carnival

LANGKAWI, 17 March 2015 - Local culture and heritage were in the spotlight at the LIMA 2015 Tourism and Culture Carnival, here. The three-day carnival was organised by Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) from 17 until 19 March 2015, at the LADA car park, Kuah, Langkawi, Kedah.

The bi-annual event, which entered its 4th edition this year, offered 40 interactive activities including craft demonstrations, cultural performances, exhibitions of visual arts and hundreds-year old artifact collections, games, singing competition, Homestay products as well as heritage and traditional foods, especially from Kedah.

The carnival was officiated by Kedah Mentri Besar, YAB Dato' Seri Hj. Mukhriz Tun Mahathir and attended by Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, YB Dato' Seri Mohamed Nazri Tan Sri Abdul Aziz, as the host of the event.

In his welcoming speech, YB Dato' Seri Mohamed Nazri said the carnival served as the platform to boost local tourism industry as well as introducing local arts and culture to foreign tourists who came to Langkawi.

"The strategic collaboration with local government such as Kedah also indicated that our tourism and culture sector received support from various quarters thus creating the potential for it to become global," he said.

At the same event, Kedah Mentri Besar also launched the Discover Kedah 2016 campaign, which aimed to lift Kedah as a multi-attraction destination.
"The State of Kedah indeed has so much more to offer with its rich history and traditions, and with the Discover Kedah 2016 campaign we want to create enlightening stories, sights and sounds that will encapsulate what Kedah is all about. We want to show that Kedah, Malaysia: Where It All Began lives up to our marketing positioning," added YAB Dato' Seri Paduka Mukhriz.

The Kedah, Malaysia: Where it All Began state tourism identity is simple yet striking, classic yet contemporary. It will help to bring instant brand recognition and give a strong, positive association for Kedah with its historic past and the country's origins.

YAB Dato' Seri Paduka Mukhriz Tun Mahathir also said that following the campaign's launch this evening, the state government will be rolling out over the next 21 months an integrated Advertising, Public Relations and Digital/Social Media initiatives to bring Kedah to the region and, eventually, the world.

The primary target markets for the campaign would be domestic, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei and Indonesia. The state government also planned to penetrate other market segments.

Discover Kedah 2016 was one of the many efforts by the state government to promote the state as an attractive tourism as well as business and investment destination.

LIMA Tourism and Culture Carnival was a two-pronged approach to show the Ministry's support, not only to the state government and LIMA exhibition, but also to Langkawi's economy, which in turn would create better livelihood for the locals.
