Mr. Andrew Tan

Esteemed members of the media,

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen:

Bismillah hirahmanirrahim,
Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
Salam Sejahtera dan Salam 1Malaysia

1. It is certainly a pleasure to be here this evening for the Grand Launch of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready to Wear 2015, Malaysia's biggest fashion event!

2. I would like to thank the organizers, Andrews Models, for inviting me to be part of this prestigious event that will take place at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur from 12th until 16th August 2015.

3. 2015 has been deemed the Year of Festivals for Malaysia or MyFEST 2015, an endless celebration of events, festivals and happenings. Themed 'Endless Celebrations', the year is packed with festivities of every genre and today in particular, we are celebrating Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready to Wear 2015.

Ladies and gentlemen,

4. As Malaysia is blessed with various cultures, MyFEST 2015 campaign seeks to showcase and celebrate Malaysia's bountiful and diverse cultures and festivities as a tourist attraction.

5. This campaign also leverages on smart partnerships with the private and public sectors in line with the National Blue Ocean Strategy through integrated public-private partnership strategy that nurtures stakeholder's engagement, support and participation.

6. With new focus, festivities and cultural events the whole year of 2015 promises abundant of excitement where attractions includes the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready to Wear 2015.

7. Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready to Wear is the main and the only platform in which local fashion designers can present their work on a renowned scale.

8. This event is strategically developed to encourage local designers and brands to further explore their creativity and encourage these designers to bring their work a step further.

9. Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready to Wear encourages local designers and brands to cultivate their passion for fashion by providing a platform that gives them recognition as they are on par with the international market, and inspire these designers to further develop the retail market.

10. The impact of KLFW RTW will trigger the beginning of a powerful economic growth our Malaysian fashion industry; as Malaysian textile and clothing exports are set to double to an annual value of US $7.5 billion by 2020, according to a report that was published in issue No 158 of Textile Outlook International, entitled 'Prospects for the Textile and Clothing Industry in Malaysia'.

11. Since the arrival of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready to Wear, the event has generated commercial regionally and internationally, and direct attention to our local fashion industry, inclusive of design houses, fashion centers, and specialized dyeing and finishing facilities.

Ladies and gentlemen,

12. Pavilion has been chosen based on heavy shopping traffic, and considering this venue is in the heart of the city, both tourists and locals can check out the kind of excitement we aim to generate for tourists who want to have a glimpse of what we call, 'Malaysia, Truly Asia.

13. This venue is indeed appropriate as Kuala Lumpur has also been ranked as the 4th Best Shopping City in The World by CNN in 2012 and 2013 consecutively and this recognition has put this city in the same league as the world's top shopping, or should I say fashion, capitals like New York, London and Paris.

14. It is with great pleasure for me to say that the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia fully supports this event that incorporates all the attractions of our local fashion and shopping industry and I look forward to the success of this event alongside KL Fashion Week in future years.

Thank you and all the best.
