10 JANUARY 2015 GRAND LAUNCHING FOR MALAYSIA YEAR OF FESTIVALS (MYFEST) 2015

PUTRAJAYA, 27 November 2014 - Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur has been selected by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) as the prime location for the Malaysia Year of Festivals (MyFest) 2015 Grand Launching, to be held on the 10th of January 2015.

The illustrious event is expected to be launched by the Prime Minister, YAB Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak at 8.00 pm.

The implementation of MyFest 2015 was announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia in his recent 2015 Budget speech. The campaign will continue to boost the tourism sector and maintain Malaysia as the top of the mind tourist destination with a target of receiving 29.4 million tourist arrivals and RM89 billion tourist receipts.

The campaign will complement the Malaysia Tourism Transformation Plan (MTTP:2020:36:168) where the country has set a target of 36 million tourist arrivals with RM168 billion tourist receipts in the year 2020.

Themed "Endless Celebrations", the year-long calendar is packed with festivities of every ethnic, cultural festivals, international acclaimed events, eco-tourism events, arts, music showcases, food promotions and other themed events.

On the same day, MOTAC, together with Kuala Lumpur City Hall, will also launch the KL Festivals Lights 2015, which will take place at Dataran Merdeka for one week until 17 January 2015.

As Malaysia Year of Festivals 2015 is a national mission, it is envisaged that government agencies, the private sector, non-government agencies and industry players will come together and make the national campaign a success.
