The fourth Restaurant Food Festival and Cooking Competition 2012 Held Today

KUALA LUMPUR, 10 NOVEMBER- Dato' Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen performed the launch of the Restaurant Food Festival and Cooking Competition 2012, here today. The fiesta comprises of five zones, namely:
  1. Exhibition of selected delicacies zone: Malaysia's famous restaurants showcasing their meticulous and artistic dishes and at the same time offering promotional banquet packages to customers;
  2. State hawker delicacies food zone: Chinese, Malay and Indian hawkers' food vendors promoting local snacks;
  3. Food products sales zone;
  4. Food festival zone: for demonstration of culinary skill;
  5. Launching/Opening and Closing ceremony of the festival.
This event is a jointly organized by the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia and The Malaysia Selangor and Federal Territory Ku Su Shin Choong Hung Restaurant Association.

Other interesting programmes include cooking demonstrations by prominent local and foreign chefs; International Smart Chef Cooking Competition; Malaysia International Halal Food Cooking Competition; highly entertaining cooking acrobatic stunts; International Tropical Fruits 3D Platter Competition; lucky draws; fun games; quizzes and performances such as the Roti Canai and Kopi Tarik competition. Over RM300,000 worth of gifts will also be given away during the carnival, including food coupons and goodie bags worth RM50 each and trolley bags worth RM60 each.

The fiesta is on from 9.30 am to 8.00 pm on 9 and 10 November; and 9.30 am to 7.30 pm on 11 November. Admission is free.

The Fabulous Food 1Malaysia initiative, a brainchild of the Minister of Tourism, YB Dato' Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen is part of a campaign to build up a vibrant food industry and establish the food component as a part of a tourism product for the Food Tourism segment. This campaign showcases the best of Malaysian street food and flavours from the region as well as great gourmet experiences.

Mee Rebus, Yong Tau Foo and Rojak are the three signature dishes to be promoted during the 2012 Fabulous Food 1Malaysia Campaign.

About Fabulous Food 1Malaysia

The Fabulous Food 1Malaysia Campaign, which was launched in 2009, is a three-month campaign divided into three segments - Malaysia International Gourmet Food Festival in October, Asean Heritage Food Trail with Chef Wan in November and Street & Restaurant Food Festival in December.

The three signature dishes that have been promoted since 2009 to 2011 are:

2009 - Laksa, Nasi Lemak and Meat Bone Tea (Bak Kut Tea)
2010 - Satay, Roti Canai and Chicken Rice
2011 - Rendang,Nasi Beriani and Char Kueh Teow
2012 - Mee Rebus, Yong Tau Foo and Rojak

About Malaysia International Gourmet Festival (MIGF) 2012

With the theme "Classical Chefs!", the Malaysia International Gourmet Festival (MIGF) 2012 will be held during the entire month of October. This year, 30 of Malaysia's finest restaurants will participate. Cuisines and delicacies to be highlighted are Malay, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, French, Italian, Lebanese, South Korean, Cuban and New Orleans.

About 2012 ASEAN Heritage Food Trail with Chef Wan
The ASEAN Heritage Trail with Chef Wan, is the brainchild of celebrity chef, Chef Wan. This is an Asean's food celebration for the senses, an opportunity for locals and tourists to learn more about the country's culture via their cuisine. The event will also include international chefs such as Chef Sisca Soewitomo (Indonesia), Chef Garth Welsh (Australia), Chef Michael Elfwing (Sweden), and Chef Frederic Cerchi (France), who will also share their tips and recipes on their chosen ASEAN delicacy, as well as local celebrity chefs such as Chef Florence, Chef Riz, Chef Liza and other rising chefs. Tourists and visitors to the festival will be able to watch the step-by-step demonstration of cooking an ASEAN dish and have a taste of their cooking.

About Restaurant and Street Food Festival
In December this year, Malaysia will once again celebrate and promote its unique local cuisine through the Restaurant & Street Food Festival. Hawker centres from 13 states will participate throughout the country. They will work together to provide the best food and services towards building a strong reputation for Malaysia's delicious local cuisine, as well as the signatures dishes of Fabulous Food 1Malaysia for this year.
