1Malaysia International Tourism Night Floral Parade draws its curtain down

PUTRAJAYA, 8 July 2012 - Flotilla from Suzhou, China is the winner of Overall Best Boat for the Magic of the Night 2012. Commencing since 30th June 2012, Magic of the Night 2012 draws its curtain down tonight.

"Congratulation to all the winners. Thank you for taking part in Magic of the Night for this year. The Ministry of Tourism genuinely appreciates your participation in Magic of the Night 2012 and hope you shall continue to support this amazing event in the coming years", Dato' Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen, Minister of Tourism says at the closing and prize-giving ceremony, here.

The prize-giving ceremony was graced by Dato' Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen. The winner of each category was awarded a contemporary art trophy, made by renowned Malaysian artist, Mr Ch'ng Huck Teng, with the theme 'Together, A Beautiful World'. The special sculpture trophy will showcase that with unity, the world will be a beautiful place for everyone.

ABOUT 1MALAYSIA INTERNATIONAL TOURISM NIGHT FLORAL PARADE 2012: MAGIC OF THE NIGHT

1Malaysia International Tourism Night Floral Parade 2012, held for the second year showcases 15 beautifully-lighted boats which cruise the Putrajaya Lake for nine consecutive nights starting 30 June until 8 July 2012 at Precinct 2 from 8.30pm to 10.30pm.

Branded as "Magic of the Night", the 1Malaysia International Tourism Night Floral Parade 2012 is aimed at introducing and promoting the diversity and richness of nature, culture and tradition of the country.

Magic of the Night excited spectators who were treated with stunning firework display, performance by singing sensation Dayang Nurfaizah at the opening and Shafinaz Selamat at the closing ceremony (for the theme song: Magic of the Night), and of course, the lighted boats.

The opening ceremony was graced by Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Hajah Haminah on June 30th.

Labeled as a creative and innovative event, Magic of the Night showcases an awe-inspiring flotilla of 15 resplendently-lighted boats with amazing detailing of popular tourism icons floating gracefully along the scenic Putrajaya Lake. The synergy of Floria and Flotilla offers a tremendous leap and value innovation in the tourism industry.

All participating flotillas were on static display after the parade to enable visitors and tourists to have a closer look and appreciate the designs and details of each boat.

Apart from splashes of colours, bright lights and mesmerising decorative boats, other attractions at the nine-day night parade are fireworks display, performance by artists, musical and cultural groups including Zhuan Yi Drum Group (Chinese), Tratiga Group (traditional Malay), Nakasutra Group (Sarawak), Bayu Percussion Group (Sabah), Dhol Federation Group (Bhangra), Kiruba Group (Indian) and Royal Unplugged - Unplugged music as well as fun activities and competitions including 1Malaysia Green, 1Malaysia Clean and Tarian Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia.

Organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Magic of the Night is a continuation of the 2012 Floria Putrajaya Festival, which takes place during the daytime and is Malaysia's premier outdoor garden and flower showcase, displaying the best of the local and international landscape and horticulture industry. Themed, Bougainvillea - Enduring Beauty, Floria 2012 will showcase the biggest collection of bougainvillea in full bloom with outdoor and indoor theme garden displays.

As part of Tourism Malaysia's promotional initiatives and in conjunction with the 'Magic of The Night', a total of 11 tour packages - the 1Malaysia Tourism Night Floral Parade 2012 Packages - have been specially developed and marketed to encourage both local and foreign to experience this unique fairyland event.
