Sports Tourism

Today, Malaysia is actively promoting itself as an organiser and host of various world-class sports events and recreational activities, thus making it a major sports tourism destination in the Asia-Pacific region. The 1998 Commonwealth Games, Formula 1 Championship, F1 Powerboat Championship and Le Tour de Langkawi are some of the sports events that are internationally recognised.

The availability of comprehensive and sophisticated sports facilities and infrastructure means Malaysia is ready to organise any sports events at any time. For example, the National Sports Complex and the Sepang F1 Circuit are world-class sports facilities which have become the main venues for prominent sports events.

Malaysia is blessed with a natural environment that is not only beautiful but also suitable for various adventure sports. This has attracted tourists with special interests to come here and experience these activities in a challenging environment. In addition, Malaysia has more than 250 golf courses nationwide for golf enthusiasts.

The main agency responsible for sports tourism is the Ministry of Youth and Sports, while the Ministry of Tourism helps in terms of promotion.
